What Is Organizational Membership?

This membership category is intended for college and university programs and departments, research institutions, and organizations that have a particular focus on Appalachian studies, Appalachian culture, or the Appalachian region. 

The 2025 membership year runs from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025. Some benefits occur in 2026 (see below).

Why Organizational Membership?

The Organizational  Membership Program offers a way for organizations, departments, and programs to benefit from, and to support, the variety of programming and services offered by the Appalachian Studies Association (ASA).

Cost of Organization Membership?

Organizational membership is $1,250 annually for full membership.

​

Benefits:

• Membership & 2026 conference registration for one director or their designee which includes membership voting rights to elect Steering Committee officers and to vote at the 2026 Business meeting. Information regarding both appears in Appalink. Institutions shall have one vote to be cast by their designee.

• Marketing on behalf of the program, including highlighting of events, degrees, or alumni includes one promotional advertisement on the website for one month during the 2025 membership year.

• Two directed social media posts during 2025 to be posted on all ASA social media accounts

• Sponsored session at the 2026 annual meeting (conference).

• 2026 student conference registration (includes membership and membership voting rights) for two designated students 

• Listing of organizational members in the final conference program and on the ASA website (organizational membership paid by December 31, 2025 will appear in the 2026 final conference program; for example: 2026 membership will appear in the final 2026 conference program)

• Print copy of the Journal of Appalachian Studies, the ASA journal (two issues; Spring and Fall 2026)* 

• Appalink: the ASA newsletter via email (Fall 2025/Spring 2026)

• 15% discount on the first ad; full-page package ads only; placed in the 2026 conference programs 

• 25% discount on first full exhibit table at 2026 conference

• Inclusion in a complimentary directory (in Excel format) of organizational members including names of chairs/directors, programs, mailing addresses and emails, and web-links hosted on our website

*Organizational membership shared by several programs within the same institution will designate one program to receive the subscription to ASA’s Journal of Appalachian Studies, the 25% discount on the first exhibit table and, the 15% advertising discount on the first, full-page ad package.

**Please Note: you must submit a proposal for the 2026 sponsored conference session via the submission portal by the deadline.

Instructions and deadline will be located in the “Call for Participation” available on our website, www.appalachianstudies.org, in early September.

Proposals will be subject to review by the program committee and must meet guidelines detailed in the “Call for Participation”.
